Academy of Management OCIS Events

OCIS Program Chair Paul Hart lays it all out in a message to OCISNET. I’ll be at most all of these events (Monday morning 8am is only real “maybe”)–come say hello.

The 2007 Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management runs from August 3rd to August 8th in Philadelphia.  I am writing to welcome all of you who are planning on attending and participating in the OCIS Division Program.  The full program can be found online at  All the OCIS Division sessions and events will be held at the Marriott Hotel.  In addition to the PDWs which run from Friday to Sunday, and the paper and symposia sessions on Monday through Wednesday, here are few events to keep in mind.

* OCIS Welcome Reception – If you make it into town by 6 PM on Saturday please join us in Marriot Grand Ballroom B.

* OCIS Welcome and Gathering – Say hello to friends and colleagues from 8:00 – 8:30 AM on Monday in the Marriott Grand Ballroom J just before the paper sessions begin at 8:30 AM. 

* OCIS Keynote – JoAnne Yates, MIT, will speak on “Temporal, Spatial, and Structural Perspectives in Communication and Information Systems” at 4:10 PM on Monday in Marriott Grand Ballroom J.

* OCIS Business Meeting – Everyone is welcome to attend this session on Monday at 5:30 PM in Marriott Grand Ballroom J.  I especially want to encourage new members and doctoral students to attend.  OCIS Awards will be given during this meeting including the First Annual Gerardine DeSanctis Dissertation Award.

* OCIS Social Hour – Immediately following the Business Meeting on Monday in Marriott Grand Ballroom F.

* OCIS Informal Social Event –  For anyone interested in meeting with OCIS colleagues and friends for the evening, this informal gathering is an opportunity to pair up with others for dinner at any one of Philadelphia’s fine restaurants. Thanks to Sonny Tambe, a doctoral student at Wharton, who picked the Noddinghead Brewery (1516 Sansom Street) as the place where we will meet on Tuesday at 5:30 PM

Also, one brief housekeeping note.  Laptops are not provided by the Academy in the conference rooms; individuals for each session are responsible for ensuring that someone brings a laptop to their session.  There will be a/v technicians who will be around to provide tech support as needed.  Some presenters might be interested in knowing that there is a “speaker room” available for anyone who may want to preview their presentations using the a/v equipment available or check for compatibility – this might be a good idea if you are planning on bringing an Apple computer.  The speaker room at the Marriott is Room 308.

  1. For anyone wanting to know, the Noddinghead Brewery is within walking distance of the Marriott. It is on the corner of Sansom (approx. 1 1/2 blocks south of Market) and 15th. See you there!
