First Annual Gerardine DeSanctis Dissertation Award

You may have remembered hearing the sad news in August, 2005: Distinguished Professor Gerardine DeSanctis Passes Away. Perhaps you read one of her many publications. Her doctoral students include three of the most prolific Information Systems authors: S. L. Javenpaa, R. T. Watson and V. Sambamurthy.

As announced on OCISNET this week:

The first annual Gerardine DeSanctis Dissertation Award will be given at the 2007 Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management.  This Award has been made possible by the generous donations of Gerry’s numerous friends and colleagues in her memory and is sponsored by the OCIS Division of the Academy.

The recipient of the award will receive a honorarium of $250.00 and the winner’s paper will automatically be the OCIS Division’s nomination for the Academy-wide William H. Newman Award.  Individuals who would like to have their papers considered for the Gerardine DeSanctis Dissertation Award should place a check in the “Newman Award Nominee” box on the abstract entry screen when submitting their manuscripts in the Academy’s online submission system.

Papers submitted for the DeSanctis Award must be consistent with the establish criteria for the Newman Award:  they must be (a) single-authored, (b) based on a doctoral dissertation completed within the past three years (accepted by the author’s university on or after January 15, 2004), and not previously published.

Papers must follow the general paper submission guidelines for all Academy submissions.  The guidelines can be found on this year’s Annual Meeting website at meeting.aomonline.org/2007   These guidelines specify that papers should be no longer than 40 pages in length including text, figures, tables and appendices; the 40 page limit applies to all areas of the manuscript content.

The deadline for submitting papers to be considered by the Gerardine DeSanctis Dissertation Award is January 15th, the same deadline for all submissions to the 2007 Academy Program.
