Is anyone on the job market this year? If so, willing to share your experience so far? I plan on hitting the market next year, and I would love to hear and learn from the mistakes experiences of others.

Nick — That’s a great question. It’s such a big topic I literally don’t know where to start.
I guess two general recommendations come to mind.
First, attend conferences to start meeting people. Academic jobs, like other jobs, come through contacts. Also, plan on the job search taking a lot of time. When you have interviews (at a conference and esp. on-campus) it an all-consuming process that cuts into other work productivity.
If anyone has specific job search questions, I’ll be glad to try to answer those.
